What Kind of Charger Does Hyundai Use?

The kind of charger Hyundai uses varies, from the complimentary portable charging device to DC chargers in public locations. Learn more about the following types of Hyundai EV chargers here:

• The ChargePoint® Home Flex EV charger: Available in select markets, this 240-volt Level 2 charger allows you to charge your electric car up to 9 times faster than a conventional 110-volt outlet.

• Portable charging device that comes with your Hyundai: With this charging device, you will simply plug into a standard 120V AC outlet to enjoy Level 1 charging. Keep in mind that Level 1 charging takes significantly longer than other charging options, so be sure to have an ample amount of time to charge up before your next drive near Doral. 

• DC fast charger: Using over 480 volts, these chargers can take your vehicle from 10% to 80% in as little as 25 to 64 minutes, depending on the model. These chargers may be found at public locations, such as charging stations and shopping centers.

• DC ultra-fast charger: Similar to DC fast chargers, the DC ultra-fast chargers are available at public locations near Miami. However, they can charge your vehicle faster. For example, a 350-kW, 800V DC ultra-fast charger can power up an IONIQ 5 from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. 

Can Hyundai Vehicles Use Tesla Superchargers?

While Tesla Superchargers have traditionally been exclusive to Tesla vehicles, the network is opening up for electric vehicles of other brands, including Hyundai. There are 3 types of Superchargers: Tesla-only Superchargers, All EVs Superchargers, and NACS Superchargers. In other words, Hyundai EVs cannot use the Tesla-only Superchargers, but they can use the other 2 types of Superchargers. See how below.

• All EVs Superchargers: According to Consumer Reports, any non-Tesla EV– except for the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV– can currently charge at one of the Tesla Superchargers that offer a Magic Dock adapter. The Magic Dock enables the EVs with a Combined Charging Standard (CCS) plug to use the All EVs Superchargers. 

• NACS Superchargers: Beginning in the last months of 2024 in the United States, all-new or refreshed Hyundai EVs will come exclusively with an NACS port that’s compatible with the NACS Superchargers. As for existing vehicles, the adapters will be available later in 2024. The refreshed 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is expected to be the first non-Tesla vehicle equipped with a NACS outlet.
